Elegantly simple, the Gamelan Bale is nonetheless one of the most used and flexible facilities at Villa Bali Gita. By day it's conventional function is a poolside bale and the detachment from other buildings, while retaining the same elevation, lends a bit of private space eg for the ladies to chat or young adults to congregate. The staff moves furniture around to suit such as planter lounge chairs or more frequently a tatami style table with floor cuishons.
For weddings and special occasions this is most often the location for the Balinese music groups, such as the Gamelan, and the dancers perform at the pool level below. At these same events after dinner dancing is set up here with the extensive external decks giving additional area to allow plenty of space. Quite often also parties will request this room be used as their main dining area, in which case the large dining table is moved and the usual dining room used for other purposes like a Yoga room.
When a Hindu wedding ceremony is conducted the religious leaders prefer the Gamelan Bale as the site. This is due to the buildings characteristics such as shape, style and, very importantly, it's orientation with special locations on the island. This is not mandatory and sometimes the size of the party attending makes it a little difficult. Despite this we have had such ceremonies use seating around the surrounding deck to accommodate 70 wedding guests for the ceremony.
Table side and/or table top barbeque dining is routinely provided in the bale and the villa has special facilities to suit such as charcoal pots and Korean Kalbi dining tables. The location is ideal as the prevailing night breeze obviates any smoke problem. There are of course other table cooked meals equally suited including Japanese Shabu Shabu and Korean Bulgogi for which the required equipment is also available - as well as cooking expertise.
Yet another usage is as a dormitory for young children. Shutters are let down for the night and the three 4 poster extra beds are moved to this bale. By day they are reset by the housekeeping staff as lounges and have backs suitable for this. Again the detachemnet of the building is useful because the children can be put to sleep at their normal bedtime and not disturbed by noise from other rooms. A nanny sleeps in with them on a Tatami matress setting.
